Black Bear Wilderness Adventures

Kluane National Park

 Kluane National Park –

A World Heritage Site

Majestic. Wild. Magical

From Whitehorse we drive 160 km west to Haines Junction, the gateway to St. Elias Mountain Range. On our way we will stop at numerous historic places along the famous Alaska Highway.

Here Kluane National Park awaits us with superlatives such as the highest mountain peak in Canada, world’s largest non-polar ice field and many more natural attractions, which promoted the Park to a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Visit the Da Kų Cultural Centre and the Parks Canada Interpretive Centre to learn from a variety of interpretative displays.

We then drive south along the park border to Kathleen Lake where you will share a picnic lunch on the shore at the feet of King’s Throne peak. In Kathleen Lake the rare, land-locked Kokanee Salmon thrive. There is time to walk along the shore of the lake before heading to the base of an ancient Rock Glacier. An easy walk, less than 2 km round trip, with an climb of 90 metres (300 feet) will reward us with an amazing panoramic view of Dezadeash Lake.

Finally we will drive further up the road in deeper into the mountains to find and enjoy the hidden Million Dollar water fall view.

Before we head back to Whitehorse we won’t miss the remarkable bakery in Haines Junction with its finest home made goodies.
